Finally it's over

Know why I haven't posted in a while? Because of E3 of course! I was busy taking in those beautiful press conferences. Also, anything I might write would be swept away by the news pouring out of E3, so better to wait for the elephant to leave the room than to try to start a conversation while he's still in it. Because everyone will want to talk about that damn elephant.

But I think I'll get a round up post up later for my favorite news from E3 this year.

"Oh! E3! Suh-weeeeet!"

TF2 is back with the War Update

Brought to you by TF2: The War Update

Team Fortress 2 is about to bring us all back to everyone's favorite class based shooter. Every time they update the game with new weapons for a particular class, the number of players spike as everyone, new and old, come to try the new items that change the fundamental strategies of TF2. When the last Sniper update came by, it gave Snipers the bow which allowed them to play at medium range. The updates that came with the Spy gave us annoying little invisible campers. And of course the Heavy got sandwiches.

Now the new update promises something new that, as usual, gives us all something to talk about. Like the last Sniper/Spy update, we have two classes getting new stuff at the same time. Unlike the Sniper/Spy update, heck, unlike all the other updates, it gives us something to do while they roll out the sneak previews. During the preview time, which typically goes for a week, Demomen and Soliders get points applied to their class' team universal for killing each other while playing. The class that gets the most points gets to brag and an extra fourth weapon to their load out.

I'll be getting back onto TF2 sometime this week to contribute. Will you?

Today is a good day for rock

Brutal Legend arrives last night thanks to my gratuitous win in Jack's Big Rip Off. I'm pretty lucky considering that I could have won Skate 2 (which I've already played and sold) though I didn't win a big fancy gaming room. Just played a bit tonight but I have no time for anything big so this weekend I'll break up the MW2 multiplayer sessions with Brutal Legend.

Konkuri is a great site for amateur tournament makers

Months ago, I stumbled across Konkuri thanks to the Download Squad. It lets you organize tournaments painlessly with a good range of customization such as round robin or bracket tournaments, the number of rounds per set, and randomly generating matches.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Confirmed for the Wii: I Haven't Sold it Yet!

Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, the game everyone thought would never come to the U.S. is indeed coming and a playable version will be at E3 this year.

The amazing thing is that the rights to the characters in Tatsunoko belongs to somewhere around 12 or 13 companies. This is the reason Jump Ultimate Stars never came to the U.S. officially. But somewhere it's coming, so I'll be pitting Casshern against Ryu or even cooler, the mech from Lost Planet vs. Gatchaman (if I remember my animes correctly).

This is actually a much bigger deal then it sounds. My Wii has been devoid of activity for months. Not since Brawl will I enjoy something on my Wii. Madworld came and went, and Okami was just a port (still a good game, but still).

Is this a sign that Nintendo listens? We still don't know what prompted this sudden announcement, but maybe if the sales are good, it's a good indicator to what kind of games we want on the Wii.

TF2 Jukes Us All With the Spy Update

After some lunch at In n Out, I head back to my computer to check on day 4 of the Sniper Update. I punch in the words in Firefox's handy Awesome Bar and expect one of two things: the sniper update on page 4 or Google giving me the sniper update as the first hit.

Neither. The first hit is a perplexing Spy Update link. Did I hit a virus? Is someone hack me? Shenanigans?

Lo and behold, the Spy from yesterday who discovered the joy of the Sniper's new Razorback shield had in turned backstabbed the Sniper thanks to the new Dead Ringer watch.

It's certainly has me excited even more then before. The Huntsman's bow sounded cool giving the Sniper more medium-range ability because sitting back in my Sniper perch and headshotting fools just isn't my thing. All in all, the Sniper is near the bottom of my game time ratio (mainly medic/soldier) but the Spy? He's near the bottom too but at least for good reason (I suck).

This hybrid class update will be the first of it's kind. Typically, there's a huge rush of one class rushes trying to get the achievements and unlock the new goodies. I see Valve didn't want half it's servers with people playing seriously get stuck with 6 snipers when you're on offense. With two classes with an update, there might just as many spies backstabbing just as many snipers. Like, cycle of life anyone?

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the Wii Just Ain't Happening

via 1up

The Wii isn't just different from the big boys in terms of processing power either. Because it's such a smaller system, the file size limits on it's shop channel items are also smaller. How small?

According to the 1up article at least, the file size cap is around 4oMB. Heck, half of the downloaded games on my 360's hard drive average around 500MBs or so. The sheer character roster of MvC2 alone would warrant a couple hundred megabytes.

So yeah, quite the low blow to the Nintendo camp. At least I'm cross-platform in terms of what systems I own.

Six Days to Fallujah Cancelled Over Negative Reaction

via gamepolitics

Konami's controversial military shooter, Six Days to Fallujah, has been canceled.

In case you've been living under a rock, Six Days to Fallujah is no ordinary military shooter, because it uses a real battle from the war in Iraq as a setting, Fallujah.

It may be no surprise that a game like this was canceled. Our military is still in Iraq right now, dealing with insurgents as we speak. Obviously, the first thought against this game is that it takes our military and the men and women serving it for granted and belittles their effort. What a disrespect this is to the people who died protecting us.

On the other hand, I don't want to forget the loss of a game that would've really been a provocative. The game was clearly made with tastefulness in mind. Iraqi war veterans (who weren't offended by it) even contributed to it.

Obviously, we'll go there eventually. I bet people didn't think we'd make a game about the Vietnam War or the Gulf Conflict, but we have in due time. So this particular incident won't be an exception (and no, I don't count Call of Duty 4. It tip toed around the settings, countries, and it was an dramatization involving nuclear weapons).

The votes are in!

Our new official day is Wednesdays, at 7pm to 10pm. We couldn't get LA5 267 (with the nice big projector) so we're sticking with good old dependable 261.

As this is the first week of classes, there is no meeting, but next week will be our first with console gaming and brief discussions on the new semester.

Happy Holidays!

I don't know if you've noticed, but Christmas is upon us and most of us at the CSULB Gaming Club have put finals behind us and are on vacation so....

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE OFFICERS AT GAMING CLUB!

There won't be an awful lot of new posts until school starts, but rest assured, I'm fanatical in my job as the club blogger.

Rock Band has sold!

Alright members! Rock Band: Special Edition has sold on eBay for a whopping $124.04! (S&H is roughly $41.04, so that's around $83 left.)

This money, is of course going to be best used for new stuff to bring to club (though I did invest a lot in Rock Band myself).

What do you think members? A new game or two? It's definitely going to get more dice and minis for D&D. Anything else?

Huzzah! We're more unique then we were a few days ago!

We got ourselves a new email address, so not everyone knows what is essentially my personal email address! (Well, everyone must know it already anyways).

All emails are going to and from gamingclub@wycre.com now, courtesy of Valiance over at the CSULB Anime Club forums.

I've also started the Facebook group, in case anyone wants to stay in touch via Facebook.

Also, if you think you can make a better banner, try out our new email and send it over to gamingclub@wycre.com with subject line: Blog Banner.

Keep in mind that the width limit is 660 pixels. There's no limit to height, but keep in mind it'll stretch the amount of scrolling you'll have to do.

Just a quick note

There's no meeting next week on the 15th. That's because, while I may not get much studying done this weekend, I'll be using my down time between finals as prime time for studying...

so I guess, no meeting is the main idea of this bullet point.

Happy Holidays! See you next semester! NAVY SEALS MARINES!

Day change!

Hey everyone! Just a quick update. I need to change the meeting's day from Monday to either Tuesday or Wednesday because my Computers and Networks class will go from 6 - 8pm roughly. So what do you want? Tuesday or Wednesday?

November 24th meeting

This Monday 24th, will be our bi-weekly Dungeons and Dragons campaign session. As of now, my own campaign has taken on one straggler, leaving the party at 5 party members.

  • Alex: Cleric
  • Ron: Ranger, archer style
  • Kelvin: Fighter
  • Bryan: Warlord
  • and introducing Jay: Ranger, two-sword style
So far, they are level 2, and if you're desperately in need of a campaign, I'm willing to risk, one more party member.
However, President Heidi is going to try her hand at hosting her own campaign on D&DD (Dungeons & Dragons Daze), so you can either carry over your old characters there, or make new ones for it.

See you guys Monday!
