iListen to something else on my MP3 player

This past week, the folks over at dustloop managed to get their grubby mitts on the clean versions of the new musical themes to the characters on Continuum Shift. This entire week, I've listened to nothing but the character themes to the new characters from the game like Hazama and Tsubaki, with awesome titles like Gluttony Fang and Condemnation Wings. So it just gets me to thinking just how important music can be in a game. Just think about the past months' games like Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed 2. It's easy to take music for granted when you have such important game play elements like multiplayer balance and mission variety. Here are some games and their songs that do such a great job, it's hard to think about the game until the consider their music and sound.
Shadow of the Colossus by Team Ico
Album: Roar of the Earth

SotC is such a moody and subtly story driven game, every big moment that hits you comes with a soundtrack. Imagine coming face to toe to the first colossus, now realizing the scope of your future endeavors. This beast is carrying a club the size of most apartment buildings, then this kicks in. Good luck man. You're gonna need it.

Mega Man series by Capcom
Album: None

The Mega Man series is known to have catchy tunes for stages. Heck Wily Castle 1 alone has inspired countless guitar sessions. From Wood Man to Cut Man to numerous others, everyone has a favorite in their hearts. By the way, Wily Castle 1 is my favorite

Album: None (officially anyways)

Played a lot of Nintendo games? There are all sorts of good choices, but Brawl wraps them all up not just in one package but in a contemporary form as well. Kirby's theme? There. Mario's theme? Here. Even those damn Pokemon song, and all of them redone with orchestral instruments.

Blazblue by Arc System Works
Album: Blazblue: Calamity Trigger OST

Of course this goes on the list! Not very many fight games put much effort into their music, but Blazblue (along with it's parent game, Guilty Gear) have a tradition of great music to fight to courtesy of Daisuke Ishiwatari. You can enjoy these songs by themselves or while actually in a match. The games are especially known for their guitar solos.

By the way, my favorite so far of the new Continuum Shift game is Nightmare Fiction.

Of course there are more. If you think a game and its music should be known, go ahead and do a shout out.

I agree with all of these. SotC is one of my favorite games of all the time, and the music is just loooveee. Revived Power is my favorite track.. its just so awesome :)

Megaman music is pretty sweet too. I love the entire series and all of its incarnations (including battle network and starforce!) and the music has been great in all of them.

I'm sure you know this since you're a big Blazblue fan, but the Guilty Gear series has amazing music too. :D

I just took that point for granted. After all, they are spiritual siblings.

I like Suck a Sage and Momentary Life.
